Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery (STARS) provides a safe environment in which people can develop their life skills, and confidence to achieve and maintain recovery and abstinence from their substance misuse, successfully re-integrate into society, and become active, contributing citizens.
This role will deliver a comprehensive duty system, including walk in assessments, taking referrals and triages, supporting reception and clinical staff with service delivery, and maintaining rapid access to prescribing function and needle exchange.
To provide care coordination, harm reduction and psychosocial interventions to clients and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a flexible approach to ensure service users receive a safe and effective service from point of entry onwards.

Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Manage a service user caseload, reviewing on-going care and treatment and liaising closely with the full range of workers and skills within the multi-agency team, including family members and significant others as appropriate.
  • Work in partnership to carry out joint assessments, key working and interventions to enable individual service user progression from engagement, through structured treatment to self-sustained recovery.
  • Facilitate service user access to treatment and community resources to increase recovery and social capital, supporting service users and their families to achieve recovery goals within their local community.
  • To exercise excellent communication skills and therapeutic skills when dealing with service users, carers and partner agencies.
  • To work closely and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team across the service partnership and externally, providing advice and information to managers and other colleagues, through attendance at reviews, team meetings, and supervision and via telephone conversations.
  • To provide effective coordination of individual service user’s recovery plans and actively promote service user and stakeholder involvement within recovery planning.
  • To lead effective case management for allocated service users, including on-going processes such as risk assessments, risk management plans and safeguarding assessments and plans.
  • To develop and deliver quality psychosocial interventions that meet local need across both group work and one to one formats.
  • To support delivery of key service functions through actively participating in duty worker, needle exchange and access to testing and immunisation service provision.
  • To promote visible recovery across the service and ensure peer support opportunities are relevant and accessible for all service users.
  • Carry out drug screening and testing when required.
Key Duties
  • Comply with all monitoring and evaluation systems, collecting and monitoring information as appropriate and provide reports when required, actively contributing to the service achieving successful service user outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date records and work in accordance with organisational guidelines and procedures.
  • Strive to reduce substance related harm to individuals and the wider community.
  • Comply with all aspects of Humankind’s Code of Conduct and adhere at all times to national/local and Humankind safeguarding policies.
  • Provide information in accordance with Humankind’s confidentiality policy to the wider team supporting service users ensuring a holistic recovery approach.
  • Uphold data protection legislation, including both local and formally agreed information sharing protocols and service user confidentiality agreements.
  • Actively participate in supervision and provide evidence of achieving performance targets alongside other supervision requirements as detailed within Humankind’s supervision policy.
  • Seek to improve personal performance, contribution, knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in appraisal and learning and development processes.
  • Recognise personal and professional boundaries and work within Humankind’s clinical governance framework at all times.
  • The post holder will be required to work flexibly across operational sites and within an agreed number of hours to maintain appropriate service provision. This will include evening and weekend working.
  • Provide a full range of service interventions in an outreach and in-reach capacity including satellite offices and partnership co-location venues with other organisations.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe systems of work and a safe environment.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • To report all problems and incidents to a Senior Humankind Manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and spirit of the post.

Person Specification – Essential criteria:
  • Sound understanding and competence of interventions including brief interventions MI, PSIs, CBT and ITEP
  • Knowledge of the substance misuse field and models of service delivery and issues relating to recovery planning
  • Understanding of best practice frameworks NICE, DOH, NTA, NMC, Care Quality Commission frameworks & Caldicott Standards
  • Understanding of the need to maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to carry out assessment and recovery planning and risk management plans
  • Experience of delivering 1-1 and group therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant health & safety, and safe working practices as they relate to the operation of cleaning equipment and the dilution of cleaning materials
  • Ability to maintain and work within professional boundaries
  • Tolerant and non-judgemental attitude
Person Specification – Desirable criteria:
  • Professional qualification e.g. substance misuse, addiction studies, counselling, housing, development, children and families, benefits/welfare advice
  • Social Work, Counselling qualification, Therapeutic Qualification
  • NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care or above or equivalent
