As a Navigator, you will manage, create and build a caseload of participants, providing 1:1, support and guidance to help them overcome complex barriers to employment and/or training.
You will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment of each participant to assess barriers, and create individual actions plans accordingly.
You will be working closely with all participants, referring into the partnership organisations for specialist support. You will be responsible for guiding them through every stage of their journey, addressing barriers, increasing engagement, introducing activities to support progression and move them closer to the labour market.
You will be solely employed on the Step Forward Tees Valley Programme.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Promote Step Forward Tees Valley to source and develop participant referrals, by working with referral partners
  • Identify new opportunities for referral sources to contribute to team start targets
  • Meet agreed performance targets
  • To support and deliver community based projects, activities and groups
  • To build new relationships, and maintain existing relationships with local organisations, agencies, businesses and the public.
  • To communicate regularly with all staff within Step Forward Tess Valley to ensure they are up to date with local area plans, initiatives and activities.
  • Undertake participant eligibility check of all participants where necessary
  • Undertake participant eligibility check of all participants to ensure compliance with ESF/BBO guidance
  • Carry out comprehensive initial assessment with all participants to assess barriers
  • Develop an individual action plan with clear goals, identifying barriers and measures to overcome these barriers
  • Regularly review the progress of participants using the Outcome Star Tool
  • Manage a participant caseload and review ongoing progress, liaising closely with the full range of specialist partners as appropriate
  • To support and deliver community based projects, activities and groups
  • Work in partnership and carry out joint key working in order to achieve improved positive outcomes for participants
  • Support participants to access resources and services to increase their employability to help them achieve their goals
  • Provide Information, Advice and Guidance and support participants with job search, application / CV writing and appropriate mock interviews
  • Work with participants to address barriers towards engagement, referring in to specialist partners where required
  • Promote volunteering opportunities, through partners, as a stepping stone to employment and training.
  • Identify appropriate employment and training opportunities for designated participants
  • Promote participants to colleges and training providers and assist in the placement of participants into further education and training
  • Meet agreed performance targets in line with project objectives
  • Present a professional image of Step Forward Tees Valley and Humankind at all times
  • Ensure that all project recordings and management information systems are adhered to and kept up to date
  • Integrate, share knowledge and spread best practice with over Navigators, staff and partners within the Step Forward Tees Valley programme
  • Maintain participant confidentiality at all time in line with all GDPR regulations
  • Be prepared to work creatively and flexibly, which may occasionally include evening and weekend work
  • Work as part of a team, attend team meetings and participate in staff training and development

Person Specification – Essential criteria:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers to unemployment, training, and education
  • Experience of working in communities and engaging with unemployed or economically inactive participants
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop new and maintain existing effective relationships with all partners and referral sources
  • Experience in caseload management
  • Effective time management and organisational skills and the ability to manage competing work demands
  • Proven ability of building trusting relationships with workless participants and innovative approaches to help retain them on the project inspire people to reach their goal
  • Computer literate and experience of working with Management Information Systems
  • Flexible approach with the ability to work evenings and weekends where required
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Goal driven with a proven ability to achieve positive outcomes for participants
  • Willing to carry out extensive travel across the operational area
  • Knowledge of Information Governance and the regulations surrounding data confidentiality
Person Specification – Desirable criteria:
  • Qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance
  • Knowledge of the Tees Valley area and local VCS services
  • Working knowledge of Safeguarding Practices
  • Specialist knowledge of challenges faced by one or more of the following groups: people with health conditions, BAME, substance/alcohol misuse, homelessness, offending
